“Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”
James 1:27 HCSB

Today our focus is on serving orphans and widows, or any of “the least of these”. Jesus is all about the outcasts, the forgotten in our society. If we love Him, we can’t help but feel compelled to love the forgotten, too.

Ten or twenty steps is a little overwhelming and not realistic for most of us. Let’s start with 5 ways to help orphans and widows this Christmas:

1. Sponsor a child via World Vision

2. Help deliver more than meals to widows

3. Check with local churches and organizations to find out if they provide household services like lawnmowing and plumbing for widows. Get involved or help fund a program…or start one!

4. Shop online for orphans

5. Support friends and family in the process of adopting or fostering a child. Put together a gift basket of things they may need, including items to make traveling less hectic. Help them raise money, offer to babysit, or simply ask how you can bless them.
