When I married my husband, I had no idea nerds have their own language. I quickly realized I needed to learn some nerd lingo if I wanted to understand and communicate with him. You don’t need to be fluent in nerd to understand your hubby, but you may need to brush up on your nerd if you don’t know the difference between Marvel and DC or think Halo is the ring around an angel’s head. Let’s start with the basics.

RPG= Role Playing Game. These video games focus more on story and less on fighting/action. Usually, you get to play from the perspective of a particular character.

Cosplay= Costume play. People dress up as their favorite game or comic characters to reenact favorite scenes or to attend Comic Con. I have to admit, I’m thankful my husband does not do this. More power to you if yours does.

Comic Con= Nerd heaven. Held in San Diego, Comic Con is the annual all things nerd conference. Find a way to get him tickets for next year and you will make his day…or year. Many attendees dress up as their favorite characters. What’s in it for you? The celebrity panels. This year Colin Ferrell, cast members from The Big Bang Theory, Jessica Biel, and other celebrities from soon to be released movies and TV shows will be there.

Multiplayer= This one is obvious. More than one person can play a game at a time.

Nathan Fillion=You may not know who he is, but to nerds Nathan Fillion is the equivalent of Ryan Gosling or Brad Pitt. He’s a nerd superstar. He starred in a short run series called Firefly, which helped him win the hearts of nerds everywhere.

Firefly=A short lived space western TV series. Hardcore fans tried to save the Fox series from being canceled. It was a favorite among nerds. Helped boost Nathan Fillion’s career.

What nerd lingo would you add to the list? What nerd words or phrases puzzle you?
